Writing long fiction

training myself to write longer form fiction is not easy! 50-55k is my sweet spot. My mind automatically cues the “wrap it up” music. It is not as simple as tacking on 30k words. The story has to expand and keep pace. But this is the challenge I’ve given myself! This month I will focus on secondary characters. I have the bandwidth to give them interesting stories.

So the minute the instant the promo for the #diorpopup hit Instagram, I called my sister & got ready! It’s an Instagram paradise. On this MLK holiday it was good to sit, enjoy a light meal and soak it all in. #NadinexMartine

Miami Book Fair

Miami Book Fair

I write books for people who are stuck at home or on a bus commuting to work, a hospital, a plane or the DMV. I hope my readers see themselves reflected in my work, as villains and as heroes. And I hope for a few hours to change the color of their skies.

Review: Next Year in Havana

Next year in havana, chanel cleeton

This is a lovely read/audio production.

Cleeton captures the tragedy of the Cuban exile experience and the fate of a people divided. This moving story links the past and the present, skipping a generation to highlight the lives of a grandmother and granddaughter. The chapters set in pre-revolution Cuba beautifully capture the fear, paranoia, terror of the last days of the Baptista regime. Overall, the elegant tale will stay with you long after you've finished.
