Romance in Living Color
In my debut novel, Exclusively Yours (March 2018), I adopted a mixed salad approach to diversity. My heroine, Leila, is Afro-Caribbean; Brie, her protégé is African- American; and Sofia, her best friend, is Latina. Leila’s love interest, Nicolas, is the child of Canadian snowbirds. I tossed it all in.

Leila's Closet
When I was trying to figure out Leila, my heroine, I worked from the outside in. What did she look like? What did she wear? How did she style her hair. If I could see her, I could breathe life into her. It turns out, Leila is profoundly insecure. But you'd never guess it by looking at her. She is stylish, sophisticated, and expresses her sensuality through her clothes. The restrained color palette was red, black, and gold. I just wish my closet was as curated and refined as hers.
